SocialAction MONDAY, May 25 (No school Memorial Day)
Location: Your home & city block!
Take a Screen-Break pledge and keep a log! Get to know the kids who live on your block by organizing a chalk sidewalk bash. Connect with your neighbours and talk about things you’d like to improve on your block. Invite them to join you for a sidewalk clean-up. Are you more of a gardener? Weed the tree pits close to your home. Do you love to draw? Make a poster to remind your neighbors to register to vote.
BookFest TUESDAY, May 26

Discover the beauty of a page turner! Bring books to exchange and meet up at the garden of the Morris-Jumel Mansion after school to enjoy children’s book read-alouds with Washington Heights NYPL and writing games with Uptown Stories. You can learn about our local bookstores The Fountain Bookshop and Word Up Community Bookshop/Librería Comunitaria who will bring their take-a-book-leave-a-book wagon and host a big kids' book giveaway. Last but not least, don’t miss the improv class for all ages in English and Spanish with The People’s Theater.
Playdate WEDNESDAY, May 27 (No school for Eid)
Location: Your favorite room, park, playground, library branch, you name it!
Time to develop your strategy skills: learn how to be nimble and fast and try your luck! Head to your nearby playground or library with your favorite games: chess, dominos, uno, pokemon, scrabble, trivial, frisbee, jumping rope, hula hoop, ball, etc. Enjoy!
SketchOut THURSDAY, May 28
Location: Hispanic Society Museum & Library, 613 West 155th Street, Time: 3-5PM

Unleash your creativity and feel empowered to share your artistic voice! Participate in free classes for all ages in English and Spanish with the Seeds of the Art Students League for portrait drawing and with The People’s Theater for improvisation. Take a guided tour in Spanish or English of the Hispanic Society Museum & Library.

Join us at Dare To Dream: The Universe Is Yours, our district’s annual Art & Performance Showcase featuring student art exhibits and live performances from District 6 schools.
Greenmarket SATURDAY, May 30
Location: Inwood Greenmarket and Isham Park, Time: 10am–2pm
The Inwood Greenmarket has been a community gathering place every week since it went year-round in 2006. It’s a great place to buy fresh food and other goods from local farms, but it’s also just a wonderful place to see neighbors and spend time together.
This Saturday, GrowNYC, the market organizers, will offer activities for kids, cooking demonstrations, and free tastings. Download a Greenmarket Self-Guided Tour and explore this market and others around the city.
High school students may be interested in GrowNYC's Youth Workforce Development Internship. Families using SNAP can double some of their benefits with the “Health Bucks” program, and some OTC cards can also be used at NYC Greenmarkets.
Next to the market is the Inwood Butterfly Sanctuary, where Keith De Cesare teaches visitors about monarch butterflies and why native plants are important for their preservation. Nearby, Bruce’s Garden has active bee hives that visitors can quietly observe.
Then come up to the hill above the rocks (just north of the market), where Tweens Without Screens will host a screen-free open play picnic. Bring a blanket and some food. Kids are encouraged to bring a game or activity to share with others.
Some activities already in the works include Limbo, the Elastics Game, Frisbee 500, Kick the Can, and Capture the Flag. Around 10:30 AM, there will be an icebreaker activity to help people meet, talk, and make new friends.
The informal after-party will continue farther up the hill in Isham Park, with more outdoor play and hanging out until the streetlights come on.
Sport SUNDAY, May 31
Location: Your favorite park, greenway, or bikelane
Time to stretch and flex! Wear your favorite school colors and invite your classmates to play a match of your favorite sport. You can also run, skate, or bike from top to bottom of our district.

Acción Social LUNES, 25 de mayo (No hay clases, Día de los Caídos)
Ubicación: ¡Tu casa y tu manzana!
¡Comprométete a tomar descansos de las pantallas y lleva un registro! Aprovecha este tiempo para conectar con las personas que viven a tu alrededor y fortalecer el sentido de comunidad en tu vecindario. Conoce a los niños de tu cuadra organizando una actividad de dibujos con tiza en la acera. Conversa con tus vecinos sobre las cosas que les gustaría mejorar en la comunidad e invítalos a participar en una limpieza de la cuadra.¿Te gusta la jardinería? Ayuda a cuidar los alcorques y espacios verdes cercanos a tu hogar. ¿Te encanta dibujar o crear arte? Diseña un cartel comunitario para animar a tus vecinos a participar cívicamente y mantenerse informados.
Pequeñas acciones fuera de las pantallas pueden generar grandes conexiones en nuestra comunidad.

Trae libros para intercambiar y acompáñanos después de clases en los jardines de la Mansión Morris-Jumel después de clases para disfrutar de lecturas en voz alta de libros infantiles con la Biblioteca Pública de Washington Heights (NYPL) y juegos de escritura con Uptown Stories. ¡Es hora de poner a prueba tu creatividad, estrategia y habilidades en equipo! Desconéctate de las pantallas y disfruta de juegos y actividades que te mantengan activo, pensando y compartiendo con otras personas. Visita el patio de recreo, parque o biblioteca más cercana y lleva tus juegos favoritos: ajedrez, dominó, UNO, cartas Pokémon, Scrabble, Trivial, frisbee, cuerda para saltar, aro de hula-hoop, pelota y mucho más. Ya sea compitiendo, colaborando o simplemente jugando por diversión, este es el momento perfecto para moverte, reír y crear recuerdos fuera de las pantallas. ¡A jugar y divertirse!

Este evento reúne presentaciones en vivo y exposiciones de arte estudiantil que representan el talento y la creatividad de todas nuestras escuelas. Ven a celebrar el trabajo de nuestros estudiantes a través de la música, el teatro, la danza y las artes visuales en una experiencia comunitaria llena de inspiración.
Greenmarket SÁBADO, 30 de mayo
Ubicación: Greenmarket de Inwoode Isham Park, Hora: 10:00-14:00
El Mercado Agricultores de Inwood ha sido un lugar de encuentro para la comunidad cada semana desde que comenzó a operar todo el año en 2006. Es un excelente lugar para comprar alimentos frescos y otros productos de granjas locales, pero también es un lugar maravilloso para ver a los vecinos y pasar tiempo juntos.
Este sábado, GrowNYC, los organizadores del mercado, ofrecerán actividades para niños, demostraciones de cocina y degustaciones gratuitas. Descarga una guía para explorar por tu cuenta este mercado y otros alrededor de la ciudad.
Los estudiantes de secundaria podrían interesarse en la pasantía laboral juvenil de GrowNYC. Además, las familias que usan SNAP pueden duplicar parte de sus beneficios con el programa “Health Bucks,” y algunas tarjetas OTC también pueden usarse en los Greenmarkets de Nueva York.
Al lado del mercado está el Santuario de Mariposas de Inwood, donde Keith De Cesare puede enseñarles a los visitantes sobre las mariposas monarca y por qué las plantas nativas son importantes para su preservación. Cerca de allí, el Jardín de Bruce, tiene colmenas activas de abejas que los visitantes pueden observar tranquilamente desde una distancia segura.
Luego, suban a la colina sobre las rocas (justo al norte del mercado), donde Tweens Without Screens organizará un picnic de juego libre sin pantallas. Traigan una manta y algo de comida. También invitamos a los niños a traer un juego o actividad para compartir con otros.

Domingo Deportivo DOMINGO, 31 de mayo
¡Es hora de moverse, estirarse y disfrutar del aire libre! Viste los colores de tu escuela e invita a tus compañeros a participar en un partido de tu deporte favorito. También puedes salir a correr, patinar o andar en bicicleta por todo el distrito. Aprovecha este momento para mantenerte activo, compartir con otros y disfrutar del movimiento en la comunidad.
